1. SPONSOR. The sole Sponsor of the contest is Daniel H. Pink, author of The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You’ll Ever Need, 4408 Butterworth Place NW, Washington DC 20016.
2. ENTRY PERIOD. The Great Johnny Bunko Challenge (“Contest”) begins on September 12, 2008 at 5:00 am EDT. All entries must be received by November 26, 2008 at 11:59 pm EST. By submitting an entry, each Entrant agrees to the Official Rules and warrants that his or her entry complies with all the requirements set out by the Official Rules and that the decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding with respect to all matters relating to the Contest.
3. WHO MAY ENTER. All Entrants must be legal residents of the United States and must be 18 years of age or older as of September 12, 2008.
4. HOW TO ENTER. Entry must be made online by going to www.johnnybunko.com. Using the official entry form, each Entrant must submit a seventh career lesson along with Entrant’s first name, last name, address, phone number, and email address. Entrants must also verify they are legal residents of the U.S. and are 18 years old or over. Entries are limited to one (1) entry per individual. There is no cost to enter this Contest, nor is any purchase required.
5. ORIGINALITY OF ENTRIES. By entering the Contest, each Entrant represents, states and agrees that the content of his or her Entry is original, true and non-defamatory, has not been previously published and that Entrant is aware of no conflicting rights to the content of his or her entry, including but not limited to copyright or other intellectual property right. Entrant represents, states and agrees that the content of his or her entry will not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party.
6. RIGHTS TO ENTRIES. By entering the Contest, each Entrant assigns to Sponsor the entire content of his or her Entry and all rights therein, including non-exclusive, irrevocable worldwide rights to use, publish and copy the Entry in any media, in whole or in part, without geographical limitation or compensation to Entrant, including, by way of example, use by Sponsor of Entry in a sequel publication to The Adventures of Johnny Bunko.
7. JUDGING CRITERIA/NOTIFICATION OF WINNER. The Sponsor will evaluate all eligible entries and will select three (3) Finalists on or about December 1, 2008. Finalists will be selected from among all eligible Entries based on the following Judging Criteria: the originality of the idea, its relevance to readers, and its cohesiveness with the ideas and principles in the book, The Adventures of Johnny Bunko. After the three Finalists are selected, their entries will be displayed on the Johnny Bunko website (www.johnnybunko.com), where visitors to the site will be invited to vote on the Winner. Each visitor will be allowed one (1) vote. The Winner will be the one Finalist who has the most votes at the end of the voting period. The voting period will extend from about December 1, 2008 until about January 1, 2009. Sponsor will tabulate the votes, notify the Winner via email or phone in accordance with the information provided by Entrant in his or her Entry, and post the Winner and the winning Entry on the Johnny Bunko website. It is the Entrant’s sole responsibility to ensure Sponsor has the correct email address and phone number to notify Entrant of potential selection as the Winner. Sponsor reserves the right not to select any Finalists and not to award any Prize in the event an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the Judging Criteria are received, as determined by the Sponsor in his sole discretion. Because this is a contest of skill, the odds of winning depend on the number and quality of eligible contest Entries received. All decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding.
8. THE PRIZE. The one Winner will receive the following Prize: A ticket to the 2009 TED Global Conference in Oxford, England, scheduled for July 21 through July 24, 2009 – plus a roundtrip coach fare air ticket between the U.S. and the U.K., and four nights lodging. Approximate value of the prize is $5000. No cash substitution, transfer or assignment of the Prize is permitted. In the event the Prize becomes unavailable, Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value. All taxes relating to receipt of the Prize are the sole responsibility of the Winner.
9. TED DISCLAIMER. TED (www.ted.com) is not involved in, does not necessarily endorse, and is not sponsoring the Contest. TED cannot be pursued for any action or inaction on the part of the Contest organizer or Sponsor. By accepting the Prize, the Winner agrees to strictly abide by the general TED code of conduct when attending the TED Global Conference.
10. PENGUIN USA DISCLAIMER. Penguin USA, the American publisher of The Adventures of Johnny Bunko, is not involved in, does not necessarily endorse, and is not sponsoring the Contest. Neither Penguin USA nor its affiliates can be pursued for any action or inaction on the part of the Contest organizer or Sponsor.
11. OTHER GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Participation in the Contest constitutes Entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right in his sole discretion to disqualify any Entrant found to be tampering with the operation of the Contest or acting in violation of these Official Rules. Entrants agree that Sponsor, his affiliates, agents, contractors and employees shall not be liable for injury, loss or damage of any kind resulting from participation in this Contest. Sponsor reserves the right, at his discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest should fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor impair the integrity of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in his sole discretion. In such event, Sponsor reserves the right to select the three Finalists based on the Judging Criteria from the eligible Entries received up to the time of impairment. By receipt of the Prize, Winner accepts the Prize with no further obligation from Sponsor or his affiliates, and agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor, his affiliates, agents, contractors and employees, from and against any and all claims or causes of action relating to or arising out of entry in the Contest or receipt or possession, use or misuse of the Prize or any element thereof. Sponsor, his affiliates, agents contractors and employees are not responsible for late, lost, illegible, incomplete, stolen, misdirected, illegitimate or impermissible entries, or any other error, human, mechanical or electronic, in the submission of an entry. This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and is void outside the U.S. and Washington, DC, and where prohibited.
